I like my barbecue sauce on the thinner side, as I am usually using it in recipes, not as a dip or straight sauce. Once the sauce is as thick as you’d like, remove from the heat and allow to cool. This recipes makes about 4 cups of barbecue sauce. Store in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. I like to use this sauce to make ribs and barbecue chicken in the slow cooker, you can find those recipes below. What’s your favorite type of barbecue sauce? I’d love to hear in the comments below! In the meantime, enjoy this Homemade Carolina-Style BBQ sauce!

I love using vintage looking jars for storing homemade sauces and such. Just makes me happy to look in my fridge and see cute little jars like the one I used for this sauce in the picture rather than ugly storage containers. Below you will find links to some jars similar to ones I use at home. Nothing beats a good old-fashioned canning jar! I love that they come in fun colors now and the wide mouths are definitely an upgrade!

  • I prefer a good Carolina sauce myself. Lots of mustard makes it. What kind of chili powder do you recommend? Do you think granulated garlic and granulated onion would work?

    • Honestly, I just use regular, generic chili powder in this recipe. I’ve been getting adventurous lately and ordering my spices online, the selection at most local grocery stores is just sad. I’d love to try this recipe with a different variety of chili powder again soon! Do you have a suggestion for me? I do believe that granulated garlic and onion would work just fine in this recipe.

  • I love mustard, there’s something about that flavour! I had no idea you could use that for barbecue sauce! When I can crack open my grill, I am so going to try this out! 🙂
